Anthony Capuano, the scandal-plagued leader of Marriott International, has turned the company into a case study on corporate callousness. Under his reign, employees are disposable, customers are an afterthought, animals are abused, and profits are the only priority.

In late 2024, Capuano announced the layoffs of 833 corporate employees, a move he cynically framed as a “reorganization” to “enhance effectiveness and efficiency.”

One anonymous worker described the aftermath as “departments across the company decimated,” with “Brand and Marketing teams gutted” and “huge cuts to Global Operations teams”

While Capuano brags about Marriott’s 219 million Bonvoy members, customers are fed up. One guest blasted, “[Capuano] does not care if Marriott makes a costly mistake to a customer”. Others call Bonvoy “the bottom” of loyalty programs, with perks slashed and service quality in freefall. They won’t even ensure their customers are getting cage-free eggs in their breakfasts. Capuano’s leadership is clearly not focused on the customer.

Capuano’s leadership is a disaster. He talks about “humility” and “listening,” but his actions scream greed and indifference. He’s a CEO who’s out of touch, out of ideas, and out of excuses.

Marriott deserves better. Employees and customers deserve better. Animals in their supply chain deserve better. Anthony Capuano? He deserves to be held accountable for his failures.

Despite pledging in 2018 to go 100% cage-free by 2025, Marriott International continues to serve eggs from battery cages—a practice so inhumane it’s banned across the EU, 11 U.S. states, and New Zealand. Hens in these cages endure lives of unimaginable suffering: broken bones, infections, and psychological torment in spaces smaller than an iPad, all so Marriott International executives and Anthony Capuano can save pennies on its supply chain.
